Traveling to Newport, RI
AFOWOS 2026 is being held at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, located 35 miles south of Providence, 75 miles from Boston and 180 miles from New York City. Local Street address for checking in/conference registration desk is O’Hare Academic Center, Salve Regina University, 36 Ochre Point Ave, Newport.
Air transportation into Newport
The closest airport to fly into is in Providence, RI (TF Green International Airport) which is 30 minutes from campus. The local airport is T.F. Green (or Providence, PVD) Airport.
Ground transportation from Providence (PVD) Airport
Bus: RIPTA 14 bus line ($3) with transfer to RIPTA 67 in Newport.
Campus shuttle ($25) will be set up for those who request (link to a form is forthcoming).
Ride Share: (cost varies).
AMTRAK/REGIONAL RAIL
Amtrak has regular service (Northeast Regional and Acela) between Washington DC and Boston with stops in Providence (price varies).
From Providence: MBTA (rail) from Providence to Wickford Junction on the Providence/Stoughton Line ($4). From Wickford Junction, Ride Share (price varies) or RIPTA 14 and RIPTA 67 bus line ($3).
From Boston South Station: MBTA (rail) to Providence on Providence/Stoughton Line ($14). From Providence train station, transfer (walk) to Providence Kennedy Plaza and take buses RIPTA 60 to RIPTA 67 (Newport Trolley), or RIPTA 14 and RIPTA 67 from Kennedy Plaza ($3)

Check out is July 10. If you plan to stay for morning field trips (info forthcoming) there will be storage space to hold your luggage, but housing on campus is not available the night of July 10. We apologize for the inconvenience, but another event will be taking place on campus.

If you need to register and then pay by check after receiving an invoice, please use the code “PAYMENTDUEBYCHECK” at checkout and within two business days you will receive an invoice via email from WOS Treasurer Medhavi Ambardar.
